Redskins Announce Signing Of Kirk Cousins To Rookie Contract
ASHBURN – The Washington Redskins announced Thursday morning that Kirk Cousins has signed his rookie contract.
Cousins, a 6-foot-3, 214-pound quarterback from Michigan State, was chosen in the fourth round (102nd overall) by the Redskins in the NFL Draft in April. He will push Rex Grossman, last year’s starter, for the responsibility of backing up Robert Griffin III, whom Washington selected No. 2 overall.
He left Michigan State with school records in passing yards (9,131), completions (723), passing touchdowns (66) and total offense (9,004 yards), and his 27 victories as a three-year starter are a record for Spartans quarterbacks.
Terms of Cousins’ contract were not disclosed, but rookies sign contracts for four years, per the new collective bargaining agreement. Of the Redskins’ nine draft picks, only Griffin and interior lineman Josh LeRibeus, chosen in the third round, have not signed.
