Jammal Brown, Oshiomogho Atogwe Listed As Questionable To Play Against Miami
ASHBURN – Though Washington Redskins right tackle Jammal Brown is still batting a groin injury sustained in the first half of Sunday’s 19-11 loss to San Francisco, he returned to practice in a very limited role Friday, head coach Mike Shanahan said.
Still, Brown is questionable to play at Miami on Sunday, and Shanahan admitted it’s unlikely he’ll be on the field.
“We’ll see how it is before the game,” Shanahan said.
The Redskins will also have to judge the health of free safety Oshiomogho Atogwe, who has been limited by a sprained knee and a toe injury. He, like Brown, was limited in practice Friday and is questionable to play against the Dolphins.
Atogwe has missed two of the last three games, playing only against Buffalo in Toronto two weeks ago. He said Friday he was fine in the first half of that game, but his knee started to hurt shortly after halftime and the toe then started to bother him as well.
“It’s definitely testing, because I have been injured quite a bit this year,” Atogwe said. “But you’ve got to fight through it and continue to believe in the healing process and believe in yourself and just get it going.”
Fellow safety LaRon Landry went through a whole practice Friday after being limited Thursday and sitting out all of Wednesday with pain in his troublesome left Achilles’ tendon. The pain is not a concern to Landry, who is listed as probable and expected to play, but Atogwe said his teammate’s uncertainty during the week put more pressure on him to try to be healthy enough to play.
“The fact that LaRon was a little sore this week puts a little bit more motivation on me to try to get back a little bit faster because you don’t want to have both of us down,” Atogwe said. “If we have less guys, that hurts the team, so it definitely motivates me more.”
If Brown cannot play, Sean Locklear would continue to fill in for him as he did against the 49ers, while Reed Doughty would replace Atogwe. Three players will not be available at Miami – receivers Santana Moss (broken left hand) and Niles Paul (turf toe), as well as reserve inside linebacker Keyaron Fox, who has an infection in one of his knees and is receiving antibiotics to treat it.
Running back Tashard Choice (hamstring) is also listed as questionable, though he has been targeting this game as his debut since being claimed off waivers from Dallas last week.
