Shayne Graham Hoping Kicking Audition Brings About Friendly Rivalry

ASHBURN – Shayne Graham doesn’t want the impending competition between himself and Graham Gano to be anything more than a friendly rivalry.
“We get along great,” Graham said Friday. “We’ve known each other before this. We actually trained together this summer a little bit, so really coming out here and not getting along with somebody is pointless.”
Graham, currently third all-time with an 85.95 field goal percentage, went 12-for-12 last season for New England and made both of his attempts in the playoffs. Gano went 24-for-35 last year, which was the worst percentage of any full-time kicker in 2010, but maintained Tuesday he’s made adjustments to his approach.
“The only control I have over the competition is what I do,” Graham said. “Being resentful to each other, or spiteful, something like that – for one, it’s immature, and two, it’s unprofessional. We’re both professionals, so I think we’re here to compete and do well, and may the best man win.”
