Zac Boyer will be entering his third season covering the Washington Redskins for The Free Lance-Star this fall. Make sure to follow Zac on Twitter (@ZacBoyer) for the latest updates or e-mail him with any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends. We’re so glad you could attend, come inside, come inside…
That’s what it feels like, right? The NFL has become a 24/7, year-round business, and with all the signings and cuts and arrivals and departures at Redskins Park, there’s been no shortage of news since the lockout ended.
Before playing catch-up with everything that’s happened, please allow myself to introduce … myself. I’m Zac Boyer, and I’ll officially take over Redskins Journal and serve as your Redskins beat writer for the Free Lance-Star beginning Monday.
I come to Fredericksburg from the Hartford Courant in Connecticut, and for the better part of the past seven seasons I’ve covered UConn football. Before we go any further, no, they’re not similar, unless you go all the way back to the great Brian Kozlowski era from 2004-07 (and I know you all remember that). I’ve also covered the NCAA and Big East men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, minor league baseball, the national trampoline championships and a whole host of other wacky and wild events.
Born and raised in Connecticut, and a UConn graduate myself, Fredricksburg and the metro Washington area is entirely new to me. I’m excited for the challenge that lies ahead, especially because of the large shoes that Rich Campbell left for me to fill here. I’ve heard plenty about Rich both from my current colleagues and from others in the area and know how devoted he was to getting the news, getting right and doing it well, and rest assured, I will carry on that tradition. I’ll also carry on another: there will be plenty of bad jokes made in this space. I promise.
Sometime Monday, I’m told, my e-mail will be up and working, and my best guess is that it will be email@example.com. You’re always more than welcome to e-mail me your thoughts, comments and questions, and I will do my best to get back to everyone in a timely manner.
In the meantime, please follow me on Twitter (@ZacBoyer), and I’ll shortly be setting up a Facebook page as well where all of my stories, blog entries and whatever else will be posted.
As always, thanks for reading, and we’ll chat on Monday.
