Redskins draft TE/FB Dennis Morris
The Redskins followed the Jason Campbell trade by selecting Louisiana Tech TE/FB Dennis Morris in the sixth round (No. 174 overall).
Morris said that coach Mike Shanahan told him he’ll play tight end, fullback and H-back.
Morris had 38 catches for 623 yards and 12 touchdowns in 12 games for the Bulldogs last season. However, he was not invited to the NFL Scouting Combine in February.
“I was a little disappointed that I didn’t get invited,” Morris said, “but some of the great tight ends and fullbacks in the league right now didn’t get invited. So I just kept my head up and just kept working.”
As for what Morris believes are his strengths: “I’m pretty fast for my size and I am a good pass catcher. I am pretty aggressive, and I like to block. I feel like I an excel as a true tight end or H-back.”
The Redskins have traded down twice today in order to pick up two extra picks. They’ll make three selections in the seventh round: Nos. 219, 229 and 231 overall.
