Redskins schedule pre-draft visits with Okung, QBs
The Redskins are busy scheduling visits with draft prospects as they finalize their draft board.
Oklahoma State tackle Russell Okung, the prospect most analysts expect the Redskins to draft with the fourth-overall pick on April 22, will visit next week, according to his agent, Peter Schaffer.
A trio of quarterbacks–Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford, Notre Dame’s Jimmy Clausen and Florida’s Tim Tebow–also have reportedly scheduled visits to Ashburn.
This common practice throughout the league doesn’t indicate a team is set on drafting a certain player, nor does it signify a club will pass on players that don’t visit. Mike Shanahan, for example, drafted Vanderbilt quarterback Jay Cutler in the first round in 2006 even though Denver didn’t host Cutler on a visit beforehand.
It’s simply another chance for team officials to get to know players better and gauge their personality, attitude and other intangibles–an important step for a franchise about to guarantee tens of millions of dollars to a player.
