Thursday quick hits

*Secondary coach Jerry Gray declined to comment on any questions about his interview for the Redskins’ head coaching job. Asked if he’ll every be willing to comment about it, he said: "Maybe one of these days." …I’m not betting on that one.

*CB DeAngelo Hall would like to see Gray stick around and be part of the next coaching staff. "I think a big reason for me coming [to the Redskins last season] was to learn under Jerry," Hall said. "He’s been great helping me just trying to get back to where I want to be as a player. I’m going to definitely go upstairs and put my vote in for him somewhere on this staff. He’s a great coach. If he moves up, whether it’s here or somewhere else, we’ll wish him the best of luck. I would love for him to be here with me."

*DE Andre Carter won the Redskins Media Good Guy Award. He was elected the winner by reporters who cover the team on a regular basis. Carter was always available and willing to answer questions this season, even the tough ones. The award was well-deserved, no question. Others were deserving, as well: WR Santana Moss and RB Rock Cartwright first come to mind. All three are true professionals who understand reporters’ need for access and helpful insight. And in a season as dreadful as this one, their help was invaluable.

*Jim Zorn’s afternoon meeting with reporters lasted only two minutes, 36 seconds–by far the shortest of the year. There isn’t much left to say about this season. He did, however, go over injuries…

*LaRon Landry (concussion) likely won’t play. That means Kareem Moore and Fred Smoot will start at safety. So there’s that.

*WR Devin Thomas (right ankle) and DT Albert Haynesworth (hip) missed practice. Thomas probably won’t play. Haynesworth is still uncertain.

…I hope you have a Happy New year and safe night tonight.

orry, but he’s got to go. He’s just going to be one of those guys that can’t stay healthy.

I’d rather have small, quick and healthy than tall and injured.
