Tuesday quick hits
News and notes from a quick turnaround at Redskins’ Park today:
*HC Jim Zorn is intent on ignoring reports of his imminent firing and reports of his assistants interviewing for his job. He said he won’t allow it to bother him.
"I try not to be an investigative reporter," Zorn said. "I try to be the head football coach and be open with our staff and players about the important things that are going on as they pertain to the game, as they pertain to our preparation and the strategies, the schemes, the health of our players. That’s really the focal point, and that’s what I’m called to do. Not go and try to figure out all the extras. And there are so many things out there. I don’t even know what’s true and what’s not."
As for the cohesiveness of the coaching staff? "
"I really believe this: that our staff is pretty together," Zorn said. "I think it still is."
*Zorn also isn’t too bothered by DT Albert Haynesworth’s post-game comments that he’s not being used properly.
"I think that after a loss, I think there’s a lot of things said," Zorn said. "I think the meaning behind those things probably can go in many different directions."
I guess it won’t be Zorn’s problem two weeks from now.
*Zorn still seems amused by the ill-fated fake field goal at the end of the first half against the Giants. That said, he acknowledges that the Giants snuffed it out. "Looking back at it, I would have kicked the field goal," Zorn said.
*DE Andre Carter has a torn biceps, but he’ll try to finish the season. No word yet on possible postseason surgery.
*RT Stephon Heyer’s status for Sunday’s game against Dallas is uncertain. Zorn will wait to see how his ailing knee responds this week.
*QB Jason Campbell (shoulder), WR Devin Thomas (ankle) and S Kareem Moore (ankle) are expected to be OK.
