Clinton Portis and the “hot seat”
The "hot seat" talk at Redskins Park has intensified since the Redskins’ 9-7 win over St. Louis on Sunday. Coach Jim Zorn said yesterday on ESPN980 AM that he is "not worried" about his job.
Clinton Portis was asked today whether he believes Zorn is on the proverbial hot seat.
"I can’t speak on Coach Zorn on the hot seat," he said. "I don’t know. I feel like I’m on the hot seat. I mean, performance. As a team, we get booed coming off the field. I think everybody in this organization is on the hot seat. If you look at the owner, he’s on the verge of losing fans. How long before people give up and just stop coming? If you look at the players, people want you out of here. You look at the coach, people want you out of here. Until we come out and play to our potential, I think everybody is on the hot seat."
That’s fair, I suppose, though I think it would take some Earth-shattering development to prompt Redskins fans give up and stop rooting for this team. Losing doesn’t qualify for that category.
Regarding Zorn, what do you think of his status? If the Redskins were to, gulp, lose to Detroit this weekend, do you believe he’d be the coach on Monday morning? I’m waivering on this, though that’s just my own speculation. I’m interested to hear any thoughts.
