Our annual Guide to Living publication arrived Saturday. This year the guide contained profiles of three people who work in the local health care field. I’ll reprint those profiles here over the next three days in case you missed them. First up is Dana Tate, who’s familiar to many local doctors, but maybe less so to their patients.

NATIVE OF: Utica, N.Y., grew up in Waterville, N.Y.
AGE: 42
FAMILY: Wife Tracy and three children, ages 15, 10 and 3. Lives in Spotsylvania County.
EDUCATION: Utica College; 12 years in the Navy, including six years in its fiscal management school.
WORK EXPERIENCE: Purchased S.A. Medical of Virginia from his parents in 1999; also owns and operates 16 area physician practices, and a company that provides administrative services for physicians; has 500 physician clients.
SPECIALTY: One of few nonphysicians in area to own a medical practice.
ACCOMPLISHMENT HE IS PROUD OF: Developing close family ties. His mother, stepfather, stepbrother and mother-in-law are among the 211 people who work in his companies.
HIS PASSION: Doing the P90X and Insanity exercise workouts; riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
WHAT’S ON HIS BUCKET LIST: Develop a way all the providers in the area can work together for the betterment of patients.
