They’re all the buzz: Medical workers who can spell ‘furbelow’

Dr. Cindy Marrow, center, competed with Kristie McDowell and CeCe Crouch.

The Doctor Bees knew how to spell “septuagenarian” and “furbelow.” But they stumbled on “onomatopoeia.” Still, Dr. Cindy Marrow and the team from Colonial Internal Medicine made it to the finals of last night’s Adult Spelling Bee.

The Fredericksburg medical community was well represented at the Spotsylvania Lion’s Club’s first competition. In addition to the Doctor Bees, there were the Yes-Brainers from the Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center and the Nurses to Bee from Germanna Community College.

Michelle Dunn, center, was captain of Spotsylvania Regional's team. She was joined by Rachel Vandermark and Lorraine Maass.

Eight teams participated. Proceeds from the event went for scholarships at Germanna. The winning spellers were the Brainstream Media team (Edie Gross, Laura Moyer and Andrew Barnick) from The Free Lance-Star.
