Radiology group is among nation’s biggest
Radiologic Associates ranks 58th in the Radiology Business Journal survey. Seventy-five private radiology practices are included in the magazine’s fourth annual listing, which appeared in its November issue. The firms are ranked by the number of radiologists they employ. Radiologic Associates had 29.5 radiologists in 2011, up from 26.5 in 2010. Advanced Radiology Services in Grand Rapids, Mich., is the nation’s largest radiology firm with 113 radiologists.
Radiologic Associates’ doctors work at Mary Washington Hospital and Stafford Hospital. They also read images and do procedures at five other imaging centers. Last year the number of images read and procedures done totaled 445,797.
The magazine also reported that many of the nation’s imaging firms appear to be experiencing a slowdown. Twenty-seven firms employed the same or fewer radiologists in 2010, compared to 2009. Twenty-two firms added radiologists.
“We saw very modest increases in procedural volumes for two size cohorts, and our first declines, in the smallest and largest cohorts, after two years of steady increases,” the magazine said.
Participation in the magazine’s survey is voluntary. The data are self-submitted.
