CVS adds walk-in clinic at Stafford location

MinuteClinic has opened a second location in the region.

MinuteClinic has opened a second outlet in the region, giving patients another walk-in option for their medical care.

The retail clinic opened June 22 inside the CVS pharmacy on McWhirt Loop, off U.S. 17, in Stafford County. The company also has an outlet in the CVS on Tidewater Trail in Spotsylvania County.

MinuteClinic is a subsidiary of the CVS Caremark Corporation. The company operates 500 retail-based clinics in 26 states. Nurse practitioners, rather than doctors, provide the care. They do screenings, give shots and treat minor illnesses and injuries. The clinics are open evenings and weekends and accept most private insurance plans. Patients do not need appointments.

In 2008, CVS renovated three of its Fredericksburg-area pharmacies to include MinuteClinics, then scaled back its plans and opened only the one on Tidewater Trail. A spokesman for MinuteClinic said yesterday that the company has no plans for additional clinics in the region.
