Hospitals change visiting rules

Visitor policy Children are again welcome as visitors at Mary Washington Hospital after the hospital relaxed the restrictions it imposed when the number of people with the flu increased.

The hospital adopted a “Level Yellow” visitor policy Oct. 28 during the worst of the H1N1 flu epidemic. Among other restrictions, the policy banned visits by children under 18. The less-restrictive “Level Green” policy went into effect Dec. 3.

Basically, the new policy means that everyone who is healthy can visit a friend or loved one who is hospitalized. Hospital officials continue to ask that you stay away if you are sick.

The change also applies to Stafford Hospital Center, HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Fredericksburg and the new Freestanding Emergency Department in Spotsylvania County.
