New health director named
Dr. John Petrasky began work yesterday as the new director of the Rappahannock Area Health District. He replaces Dr. Thomas Franck who resigned in January after two years on the job.
Petrasky received his medical degree from Wayne State University in Detroit and a master of public health degree from the University of Michigan School of Public Health in Ann Arbor. He was an instructor in the Department of Family Practice at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine for 15 years.
He served as a local health director for 22 years in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. His interests include the study of Lyme disease and the use of automation in county health departments.
