Surgery center gets state approval to move
The Surgi-Center of Central Virginia has received permission from the state Health Department to move its four operating rooms and three procedure rooms to a new building on Dixon Street in Fredericksburg.
The center received word today that it can move from its current location near the Chatham Bridge in Stafford County. Last year local physicians did more than 11,200 procedures there. Officials told the state that they need more room.
Their new building will be bigger, with larger operating rooms and more parking. It will be located next to Dixon Park. The cost of the project is $4.7 million.
The center is 80-percent owned by United Surgical Partners International, a Dallas company that operates 164 centers nationwide. A dozen local physicians own the remainder. Construction is expected to begin this summer. The center is expected to open in 2011.
