Hospital experts are guest speakers

Five people affiliated with Mary Washington Hospital are on the pre-race program for the Marine Corps Historic Half marathon. All five will speak this Saturday, the day before the race, at the Healthy Lifestyle Expo at the city’s Expo Center.

Runners are not able to pick up their packets on Sunday, the race day, so most will be in town the day before. About 5,000 runners are expected to take part.

The featured speakers, their specialties, times and topics are:

Dr. Robert Vranian, cardiologist, 11 a.m., “Running: impact on physical and psychological health – pros and cons.”

Anders Brandt, physical therapist, noon, “A physical therapy perspective on running injuries.”

Tiaisha Myers, dietician, 1 p.m., “Nutrition for runners.”

Dr. Andre Eglevsky, orthopedic surgeon, 2 p.m., “Running injuries: an orthopedic approach.”

Dr. Joel Goodwin, trauma surgeon, 3 p.m., “Tips for runners and pedestrian safety.

Jim Ryun, former Olympic medalist and Kansas congressman, will speak during the Pasta Party that begins at 5 o’clock that evening.
