UPDATE: In case you missed it, here’s the full story on “Buddy” from Sunday.

Buddy hangs out in Michelle Matthews’ office while he waits to visit with someone. He stays on the lookout in her doorway, tail wagging.

The Fredericksburg Department of  Social Services has a new stress-relief tool: Buddy, a 6-year-old Dandie Dinmont Terrier.

The 22-pound canine recently started serving alongside family services specialist Michelle Matthews. Staff and clients have taken to the laid-back terrier who has a cozy resting place established under a table in Matthews’ office.

This week, in addition to his matching paw-print collar and leash, he sported a color-coordinated bow tie. Turns out he’s in tune with the department’s dress code.
