Please forgive the tardiness of this item; I spent Easter with family, happily cut off from the Web and blogosphere. Just catching up on my reading.
But it’s still a stunner …
President Obama and his family worshiped on Easter Sunday at a church founded in 1862 by former Fredericksburg-area slaves: Washington’s Shiloh Baptist Church.
Amid the Civil War, 21 freed slaves journeyed to the nation’s capital from Fredericksburg to establish a place where they could worship freely, according to the church’s pastor, Dr. Wallace Charles Smith.
Its origins can be traced to Fredericksburg’s Shiloh Baptist Church, organized by its white members in 1804.
