From Richmond, Free Lance-Star reporter Portsia Smith says there was a brief protest on immigration reform at the Republican election night event.
Just before Democrat Terry McAuliffe was declared the winner of the governor’s race, a group of protesters by the name of Casa in Action stormed the stage at the Marriott, and about a dozen of them marched through the ballroom shouting “What do we want? Immigration reform. When do we want it? Now.”
They were handing out brochures and screaming in the banquet hall before they were eventually escorted out by police.
Group member Ashwini Jaisingh said the group is calling on the Republican party to increase efforts to pass immigration reform, and are specifically targeting Eric Cantor.
“We spoke to people in his district and we’re hearing that people are overwhelmingly in support of it,” she said.
