Congressional, Senate candidates in the area this week
As the campaigns head into their last two weeks, two Democratic congressional challengers are bringing campaign tours through the Fredericksburg area.
On Wednesday, 1st District Democratic candidate Adam Cook is coming to Stafford as part of a three-day “veterans tour” of the 1st District. Cook is running against Wittman.
His veterans tour is meant to highlight and discuss veterans’ issues and needs and the federal government’s role and responsibilities in those issues. Cook is a military veteran who did a tour in Afghanistan. His Stafford event will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Globe and Laurel Restaurant, 3987 Jefferson Davis Highway, Stafford.
In the region’s other congressional district, the 7th, Democrat Wayne Powell is also on tour Tuesday night and Wednesday. Powell will be barnstorming the district with bluegrass performer Ralph Stanley and his Clinch Mountain Boys.
The Powell/Stanley events start Tuesday night in Gordonsville, and then hit Culpeper at noon on Wednesday, Mineral at 2 p.m. Wednesday, and head back toward the Richmond end of the district.
It’s not a public event nor a campaign tour, but Republican U.S. Senate candidate George Allen will be in Fredericksburg Tuesday morning.
He’ll be accompanied by Gov. Bob McDonnell, Rep. Rob Wittman, and state Sen. Bryce Reeves at a meeting at SimVentions, talking to federal contractors.
