Wittman, Cook, Parker debate tonight in Newport News
Candidates in the 1st Congressional District will debate tonight at Christopher Newport University.
Rep. Rob Wittman, R-Montross, is the incumbent, facing Democrat Adam Cook and Independent Green Gail “For Rail” Parker.
Wittman is running for a third full term in the House of Representatives. He was first elected in 2007 in a special election to replace the late Jo Ann Davis. Before that he served in the House of Delegates and in local government in Westmoreland County.
Cook is a former JAG officer who’s now a reservist, which allows him to run for political office. Parker is a perennial candidate for political office who ran in the 1st district in 2008 as well.
This is their first debate; there will be a second on Oct. 29 at the University of Mary Washington
The CNU debate tonight runs from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the CNU ballroom in the David Student Union. It’s co-sponsored by the Daily Press, which says it will livestream the debate on its website here (or dailypress.com), and by the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). CNU political analyst Quentin Kidd will moderate.
