Spotsylvania County authorities say a Fredericksburg man’s attempt to collect a debt for a friend landed him in jail.
County deputies responded to the Econo Lodge in the 5300 block of Jefferson Davis Highway around 11:30 p.m. Sunday after receiving a 911 call.
Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jeff Pearce said the incident had been going on for about four hours before the victim was able to call police.
Pearce said it started around 7:30 p.m. when a 20-year-old female from Colonial Beach had contacted her ex-boyfriend to bring all of her belongings to the Econo Lodge, where she was living with her new 22-year-old boyfriend.
He agreed to deliver her things, but one of his friends showed up instead, Pearce said.
Pearce said the friend confronted the current boyfriend at gunpoint outside and forced him to let him inside the motel room, where the woman was.
He held the two at gunpoint for several hours demanding money that the ex-boyfriend claimed was owed to him, Pearce said.
The woman told him she didn’t have the money, but was able to convince him to let her call her mother and get it from her, Pearce said.
When she got the phone, she dialed 911 and acted as if she was talking to her mother, Pearce said.
The dispatcher, who could hear what was going on, sent deputies to the motel.
Upon arrival, deputies came found 40-year-old Yancy Blue and arrested him without incident.
Blue is charged with breaking and entering with a deadly weapon, brandishing a weapon, abduction, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
He is currently being held in Rappahannock Regional Jail.
A preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 28 in Spotsylvania General District Court.
