Made in FredVA competition kicking off
Applications for the second annual Made in FredVA business startup competition will be accepted beginning Tuesday.
The winner of the event will receive at least $5,000 toward startup expenses. The final prize amount is expected to grow and will be announced at a later date.
There will also be a people’s choice cash award.
Applicants have until Oct. 3 to submit their business concepts online at madein fredva.com.
Applications are free, and both startups and existing businesses qualify.
The Next Generation of Business Leaders’ board of directors will select five finalists from the applicant pool to pitch their business ideas during this year’s event.
The event will start at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Inn at the Old Silk Mill.
Three local entrepreneurs, Adam Fried, CEO of Atlantic Builders Ltd., Joy Crump, executive chef and partner at Foode, and Sameer Shalaby, managing partner, Select Venture Partner LLC, will be this year’s judges.
In addition, the winner of Made in FredVa will have the opportunity to pitch to Shalaby’s early-stage investment fund.
Three of last year’s finalists, Libby O’Malley of Muster Me, Adrian Silversmith of Sprelly and Shawn Phillips of Spencer Devon Brewing, have all launched businesses since last fall’s Made in FredVA contest.
Sponsorships are still available. To sponsor the event contact Whitney Watts at whitney@freder icksburgchamber.org.
