King George fire termed ‘suspicious’
King George officials, along with the Virginia State Police, are investigating a fire that destroyed a King George home early Tuesday.
The fire “was suspicious in nature” because of the strong smell of accelerants, said David Moody, chief of King George’s Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services. The same smell was present at a neighbor’s house, which “was intentionally set on fire,” but did not suffer damage, he said.
The home that did burn was on Karen Lane, off Hudson Road and in a neighborhood near the King George Courthouse. The one-story ranch home’s value was estimated at $120,000, Moody said.
The call came in at 3:07 a.m. Tuesday, and the fire was fully involved when King George units arrived.
No one was home at the time, Moody said.
