Local unemployment level in July

The Fredericksburg-area jobless rate remained a steady 5.2 percent in July, according to numbers released by the Virginia Employment Commission Wednesday.

In June the local unemployment rate fell to 5.2 percent from 5.5 percent in May.

The unemployment rate is lower than the Fredericksburg region jobless rate in July 2013, which was 5.6 percent.

The region, comprising the city of Fredericksburg and counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford, bested the state and nation, which fell to 5.4 percent and 6.5 percent, respectively.

Stafford and Spotsylvania counties each had 5 percent jobless rates in July, followed by the city of Fredericksburg at 5.7 percent, Caroline County at 5.9 percent, and King George County at 6 percent.

None of the figures has been adjusted for seasonal factors.
