Caroline police recover stolen jewelry
Caroline County Sheriff Tony Lippa said some residents in the Lake Caroline area could be victims of theft and not even know it.
Investigators seized more than 200 pieces of stolen jewelry that recently were recovered from a home in Ruther Glen and from a pawn shop in Ashland, Lippa said.
Kevin Daniel Kelley, 29, of Ruther Glen, is charged with 34 counts of breaking and entering, grand larceny, larceny with intent to sell and possession of a firearm while being a convicted felon. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 5.
Lippa said the charges stem from a string of burglaries that began June 27.
Mostly jewelry and firearms were stolen from unsecured homes in the Lake Caroline area, he said.
The burglar “left minimal disturbance to the interior of the home and little or no noticeable damage to the exterior,” Lippa said. “Residents of this area should do an inventory of their belongings as they could be a victim and not yet realize it.”
Many victims have identified their belongings and have them back in their possession, he said.
If anyone thinks that they may be a victim, they are asked to contact the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office at 804/633-1082. Ask to speak to Investigators Dean Cable or Scott Gershowitz.
