North Stafford man shot twice in stomach
Stafford County detectives are investigating an incident early Saturday in which a 26-year-old man was shot twice in the abdomen.
Sheriff’s Office Maj. David Decatur said the incident occurred about 2 a.m. on Remington Court in the Hampton Oaks area. Deputies went to Stafford Hospital that morning after being notified that a man had been dropped off there with gunshot wounds, Decatur said.
Decatur said the victim told police that he was about to leave a family member’s home that morning when he was approached in the driveway by a man he didn’t know. He said the man brandished a handgun, said, “What’s up?” and fired several shots without provocation.
The shooter then ran around the corner and the victim heard tires squealing as a vehicle hurriedly left the area.
The wounded victim said he ran to the front door of the residence and, after struggling to get inside, told a relative he’d been shot.
The relative then drove the victim to Stafford Hospital and dropped him off. The man was later taken to Mary Washington Hospital, Decatur said, where surgery was performed. He is expected to make a full recovery.
The shooter was described as a light-skinned black male with long dreadlocks, 5 feet, 7 inches tall wearing an orange and green T-shirt and jean shorts.
