A Spotsylvania County man wanted on larceny charges is in custody after running away from authorities.
Detectives with the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office were attempting to locate the suspect Wednesday.
Sheriff’s Capt. Jeff Pearce said detectives received information that the man was in the Artillery Ridge subdivision near Shenandoah Drive and Park View Lane.
The man was spotted coming out of a residence on Shenandoah Lane. He fled on foot when he saw police, Pearce said.
Additional deputies responded to set up a perimeter and a canine unit responded to help with the search, Pearce said.
The man was found a short time later hiding in a shed behind a nearby residence, he said.
Matthew Cox, 23, is charged with three counts of grand larceny and three felony counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
He was taken into custody without further incident and is being held without bond at Rappahannock Regional Jail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 15 in Spotsylvania General District Court.
