Small Townhouse Fire in Fredericksburg
Fredericksburg fire units responded to a small fire in a vacant townhouse off Wicklow Drive and Roffman Road around 5 a.m. this morning.
The fire was coming from a pile of trash and debris in the kitchen area on the first floor of the townhouse located at 418 Rann Court. No one was injured in the incident.
Fredericksburg Deputy Fire Chief Mike Jones said that it appeared that the townhouse was undergoing renovations, and that the pile of trash that caught fire could have been from the renovations or from squatters. The Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
According to Jones, a police officer was doing normal rounds of the area when someone flagged him down to tell him that smoke was coming from the townhouse.
Firefighters knocked down the plywood fastened to the rear sliding door area to find a small trash fire in the kitchen. The fire was extinguished quickly and most of the units had cleared the scene within an hour, Jones said.
Jones said he didn’t know the owner of the home.
Jones said the smoke and heat damage to the townhouse would likely amount to $10,000 or less.
