Stafford detectives are investigating a reported robbery late Wednesday during which a 22-year-old man received a gunshot wound to his hand, police said.
Sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy said the victim showed up at Stafford Hospital about 11 p.m. He was dropped off at the emergency room by an unknown male, who immediately drove away.
The victim told police he’d been visiting friends in the 1100 block of Providence Street in North Stafford and was on his way to the 1500 block to meet a relative.
He was approached by two males, one of whom had a handgun. One began beating him with the gun and stole a watch off his arm during the process, according to the story.
During the pistol-whipping, a shot went off and a bullet went through the victim’s left hand. The robber took a small amount of money out of the victim’s pocket, and he and the other male left in an older model gray Jeep Cherokee, Kennedy said. The other man did not participate in the assault, Kennedy said.
The victim had limited descriptions of the two men, Kennedy said. The gunman had facial hair, while the other man was wearing a white T-shirt. The victim had no idea who they are or why he was targeted.
