Culpeper police arrest man after shots fired
A 24-year-old Culpeper man was arrested Tuesday after two shots were fired behind the Depot off Commerce Street.
Larry A. Jackson Jr. of the 2200 block of Forsythia Drive was charged with discharging a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school (Culpeper Cosmetology Center), a Class 4 felony.
According to Capt. Chris Settle of the Culpeper town police, reports were made that someone was shooting behind the Depot about noon.
Town police, the Virginia State Police and members of the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office responded and were told by witnesses that two men had been seen in the area and that one had fired a handgun.
The witnesses added that the two men had fled to an adjacent apartment building on Waters Place. Jackson was located there, Settle said.
Settle added that investigators do not believe that anyone was targeted in the incident and police are not sure what prompted the shots being fired.
Jackson is being held on a $5,000 bond, Settle said.
