A second person has died from injuries in a crash Sunday on Leavells Road in Spotsylvania that claimed the life of the son of a Caroline County official.
Lt. Troy Skebo of the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office said 30-year-old Amanda Sullivan of Spotsylvania died at Mary Washington Hospital on Thursday.
Her passenger, 24-year-old Calvin B. Taylor Jr., of Woodford was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash late Sunday night. He was the son of Caroline County Supervisor Calvin B. Taylor Sr.
Police reported that someone called 911 before midnight to report a car traveling at a high rate of speed along Leavells Road.
A deputy observed a vehicle matching the caller’s description pass on the other side of the road, said Capt. Jeff Pearce of the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office.
As the deputy was turning around to catch up to the car, it was approaching the bridge near Open Door Baptist Church and appeared to lose control, he said.
The car went off of the right side of the road and struck the concrete bridge abutment, he said.
Police said speed appears to be a factor in the accident, which is still under investigation.
