Virginia State Fair spotlight can be yours

For the second year in a row, Virginia State Fair officials are seeking local talent to perform this year.

The fair runs from Sept. 26 through Oct. 5 at Meadow Event Park in Caroline County.

One-hour slots are available for local performers at the Triple Crown Amphitheater for each day of the fair’s 10-day run.

The shows will run between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. each day, with an hour on stage and 15 minutes for setup and breakdown for each act. A house audio system will be available for use.

State Fair officials are hoping to attract acts from churches, nightclubs, coffee houses, community centers and other venues.

The musicians won’t be charged, but won’t be paid either.

The stage where locals would perform is in a new location this year—the Harvest Landing area—which will give acts more visibility to fairgoers.

The fair hasn’t yet announced the schedule of headlining performers for the Festival Stage this year.

Last year, 229,000 people attended the State Fair.

Interested performers may send samples of their music on a DVD or a link to their website to Micki Long, mic ki@threeoneoneproduc or 11624 Norwich Parkway, Glen Allen, Va. 23059.

The deadline for submissions is Sept. 1.
