Report of abduction attempt was a hoax
The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office says a report earlier this week of a possible abduction attempt in the Vista Woods subdivision turned out to be a case of a boy crying wolf.
The 9-year-old reported that a man had approached him in the North Stafford community July 8 and told him to get into a black Toyota pickup.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the boy’s story originally detailed a woman and another child sitting in the truck, and included full descriptions of the two adults. The boy also recalled several minute details, such as a dent in the truck’s bumper and the man’s orange shirt, black hair and reddish-brown beard.
In response to the initial report, officers searched for the vehicle, but did not find any similar trucks in the area.
Sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy said after detectives spoke to the child, they determined that the boy had fabricated the story to avoid getting in trouble for an unrelated incident.
