A fire damaged the AAMCO Transmissions building on Industrial Drive in Spotsylvania County early Friday morning.

A call came in to Spotsylvania 911 operators at 4:35 a.m. reporting a fire at 98 Industrial Drive, the location of the local vehicle repair shop, said Spotsylvania Fire and Rescue Deputy Chief of Operations Joe Sposa.

Fifty-eight firefighters arrived on scene at 4:40 a.m. and saw heavy smoke coming from the building, Sposa said. Seven fire engines, one truck and two specialty squads were dispatched to respond to the fire.

While Spotsylvania firefighters were occupied on the scene, the city of Fredericksburg and Caroline County fire departments helped cover Spotsylvania County.

The blaze was under control within about 25 minutes, Sposa said. The flames did not spread to any neighboring buildings.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. There were no injuries and the business was closed when the flames started, Sposa said.

AAMCO Transmissions is closed for business while the damage is assessed and repaired.
