A clerk at a Stafford County convenience store was robbed at gunpoint late Monday, police said.

A gunman entered the Aquia Fas Mart at 2983 Jefferson Davis Highway about 10:23 p.m., Sheriff’s Office Maj. David Decatur said.

The man walked up to the counter, pulled out a black handgun and pointed it at the clerk, Decatur said. He then demanded money from the register.

The clerk handed him what Decatur described as a “small amount” of cash, and the gunman ran out the back door. He was last seen fleeing the area on foot.

Deputies arrived about two minutes after receiving the clerk’s 911 call and began searching for the gunman and checking with nearby residents. A tracking dog was also brought to the scene, but the gunman was not found.

He was described as a Hispanic man wearing gloves, green pants and a black jacket. He was wearing a dark hat and had a blue bandanna covering his face.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 540/658-4400 or Crime Solvers at 540/659-2020.
