Teen charged with stealing items from cars in Stafford County
Stafford County authorities have charged a 17-year-old boy with the theft of items from at least four vehicles.
Sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy said Deputy Justin Howell went to Keating Circle in the Wayside area about 3 a.m. Friday in response to a call from a resident. The resident was out with his dog when Howell and others arrived, and he pointed to the area where the young suspect was.
Deputies saw a young male wearing a black mask, black gloves and a backpack walking between vehicles. When he noticed the deputies, he ran.
Howell caught him after about a minute and took him into custody. An iPhone, an iPad Touch, jewelry and cash were among the items recovered. All of it had been taken from vehicles in the area, police said.
After determining that the suspect was underage, juvenile intake was contacted and the boy was placed in the Rappahannock Regional Juvenile Detention Center.
The boy, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, is charged with possession of burglary tools, wearing a mask in public, obstruction of justice and petty larceny.
