A Spotsylvania County dog owner has been charged after officials say a Chihuahua was attacked and killed by a chow mix that was running loose, police said.
According to Capt. Jeff Pearce of the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to Eisenhower Lane in the Sheraton Hills East area around 9 Tuesday night for a report of a dog attack.
A woman told police that she was walking her Chihuahua on a leash when she saw two dogs running loose, Pearce said. She told police that one of the dogs, described as a chow mix, attacked the Chihuahua and killed it, he said.
The woman was not injured.
Animal Control took the dog into custody and it is being quarantined at the animal shelter, according to Capt. William Tydings of the Animal Control division.
The owner of the dog was located and issued citations, he said.
Karen Joos of Rutherford Lane is charged with having dogs running at large.
Animal Control said the incident remains under investigation, Tydings said.
