Culpeper County man faces murder charges
A 48-year-old Culpeper resident has been charged with first-degree murder following a Monday morning altercation during which he allegedly stabbed an acquaintance.
Culpeper police were called to a residence in the 700 block of Gardner Street about 2:45 a.m. and found a 38-year-old man who had apparently died from stab wounds to the upper torso, according to Capt. Chris Settle.
Following a four-hour manhunt that involved members of the town police, officers and K-9 units from the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office, and the Virginia State Police, Humberto Flores De Luna was located near the 200 block of James Madison Highway about 7 a.m. and arrested without incident.
Flores De Luna and the victim both resided at the Gardner Street residence, Settle said, adding that police are still unsure what the argument was about.
Flores De Luna was also slightly injured in what Settle said appeared to be a scuffle prior to the alleged stabbing.
The victim’s name has not been released until the next of kin is notified.
Settle said police do not know where Flores De Luna is originally from.
He is being held in the Culpeper County jail without bond.
The investigation is ongoing, Settle said.
