Stafford amphitheater opening soon
Stafford County’s first covered amphitheater stage will open later this month, giving residents a new spot to enjoy outdoor performances.
Called Celebration Stage, the amphitheater in Pratt Memorial Park off River Road will open on June 25 with a family festival, ribbon cutting and live performances.
The opening is part of Stafford’s year-long celebration of its 350th anniversary. County officials say the stage near the park’s entrance will be able to host performing arts, theatrical and dance events, concerts, movies and other large-scale events.
“The 350th Anniversary Blue Ribbon Committee set out to leave a lasting mark with our commemoration this year, and Celebration Stage will help create that legacy in Stafford,” said Harry Crisp, chairman of the 350th Anniversary Blue Ribbon Committee.
“The stage will nurture artistic expression and help us foster community spirit among our residents.”
Atlantic Builders, Earl’s True Value Hardware and Henderson Productions sponsored the stage along with the county.
Festivities start at 5 p.m. June 25 at Pratt Park with the family festival. The official opening of Celebration Stage will begin at 7 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“Golfzilla,” a large-scale golf arena based on the Godzilla theme, will highlight the festival.
Scheduled performances run from 7:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. and include the bluegrass band The Believers, Riverside Center Children’s Theater, Winding Creek African Ensemble, Mount Hope Baptist Choir, Stafford Dance Center and Stage Door Productions.
Beach Fries, Family Pizzeria, McCoy’s BBQ, Poppa Bear’s Kettle Korn and Scotty’s Hot Dogs will have food for sale.
Visitors should bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on during performances.
