Stabbing at city nightspot investigated
A Fredericksburg man was stabbed in the rib cage during a ruckus at a city nightspot early Monday, police said.
Police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said police received a call from a nurse at Mary Washington Hospital about a 33-year-old man who had just checked himself in with a non-life-threatening 3-inch stab wound.
The victim told police an altercation erupted at Jay’s Lounge, at 2030 Plank Road, about 1:30 a.m., Bledsoe said.
The man told police he was at the business in the Greenbrier Shopping Center when the fight erupted on the dance floor, but said he wasn’t involved in the fight and didn’t know those who were.
The man said he felt a pain after the fight so he went to the hospital. He said he didn’t realize he’d been stabbed until a doctor confirmed it.
Bledsoe said police interviewed security workers at the business and were told they had broken up a fight and sent the combatants away, but didn’t realize that anyone had been hurt.
Police are reviewing surveillance video from the business as part of the ongoing investigation, Bledsoe said.
