Spotsy homicide under investigation

A Spotsylvania County woman’s death is being investigated as a homicide after her body was found in her home.
Capt. Jeff Pearce of the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office said a call came in from the woman’s Northern Virginia employer asking to check on her when she failed to report for work.
Her boss called police after numerous attempts to reach her and said it was unusual for her to miss her shift as a nurse at Med Star Washington Hospital, Pearce said.
At 11:40 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a residence in the 7800 block of Eastridge Way, where they found the body of 58-year-old Nancy Mercer laying on the floor. The residence is off Hickory Ridge Road west of U.S. 1 in the Thornburg area.
Her body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Richmond for an autopsy, Pearce said.
“Details on the cause of death are being withheld until results of the autopsy are completed,” he said. “No further information is available at this time.”
He said detectives are following up on leads developed at the scene.
Anyone with information regarding this death are asked to contact the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office at 540/582-7115 or anonymously by texting SEE911 to CRIMES (274637).
