North Carolina man facing indecency charge in Stafford
A North Carolina man was arrested Friday after two women in North Stafford stores reported being startled by a leering man with his hand in his pants, police said.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman Bill Kennedy said the first incident was reported Thursday about 2:30 p.m. in the Walmart at 217 Garrisonville Road. Two women were shopping when one of them noticed a heavyset man at the end of the aisle moving his hand inside his pants. The man left when the woman pointed him out to the other woman.
The women later told the manager what had happened and Deputy Joe Massine responded, but the man was not found.
The next day, Deputy Bo Truslow was called to the Dollar General store at 263 Garrisonville Road for a similar report. A woman in the store said she turned around and saw man fitting the description from the previous day behind her.
He followed her to several more aisles with his hand in his pants, Kennedy said, so she reported him to store employees.
The employees confronted the man and he caused a disturbance in the store, during which he was yelling at the woman.
Truslow responded to the disturbance, but the man had driven away by the time the deputy arrived. However, witnesses gave authorities a description of the man’s vehicle and his license plate number.
A short time later, police got a call from Sunningdale Meadows subdivision regarding a man driving around the neighborhood knocking on doors. He was driving a car that matched the description.
He had left the subdivision when deputies arrived, but the car was soon spotted in nearby Foxwood Village. Truslow went to a residence and found the suspect, 19-year-old Dashawn Leroy White of Elizabeth City, N.C.
White was charged with an indecent act and placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
