Second man charged in mini-mart hold-up
A second man has been charged in a March 2013 armed robbery of a 7–Eleven store in Colonial Beach.
Shedrick B. Covert, 23, an inmate at the Northern Neck Regional Jail, is charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, possession of a firearm while committing a felony and wearing a mask in public to conceal identity.
He will appear in Westmoreland Circuit Court for those charges this morning.
According to Westmoreland County Sheriff C.O. Balderson, two clerks were working in the store on March 7, 2013, when two masked man entered with a small-caliber handgun and demanded money.
They got away with the cash drawer, which contained an undisclosed amount of cash, he said. No one was injured.
The Colonial Beach Police Department originally handled the case, but it was turned over to detectives with the Westmoreland Sheriff’s Office.
Another inmate, Michael R. Bradshaw Jr., 22, of Montross was convicted last month of the same charges in connection with the robbery and is expected to be sentenced on May 23.
Bradshaw and Covert had been convicted of six other charges in December stemming from a string of break-ins in Richmond and Westmoreland counties, including a church burglary.
