U.S. 1 north still blocked in Spotsylvania after morning crash
UPDATE: A tractor trailer attempting to make a left turn onto U.S. 17 at Mills Drive overturned at about 7 this morning and blocked the northbound lanes of U.S. 1 for about three hours, said Sgt. Les Tyler with the Virginia State Police.
The truck was traveling southbound on U.S. 1. It was hauling trash, which spilled onto the road and had to be cleaned up.
The driver, Daniel Gebru, 31, of Alexandria, was not injured in the crash, Tyler said.
He was issued a summons for reckless driving, Tyler said, and the post-crash inspection revealed defective brakes.
A detour was put in place by the Virginia Department of Transportation and State Police was assisted by the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office and Spotsylvania Fire and Rescue.
All lanes of U.S. 1 north in Spotsylvania remain blocked after a tractor-trailer overturned earlier this morning.
Delays of up to 30 minutes were being reported in the Massaponax / Cosner’s Corner area.
