Man sentenced for beer run with baby with drunk driver behind wheel
A man who took an 8-month-old baby on a beer run with a drunk driver was convicted of a felony Thursday in Stafford Circuit Court.
Daniel C. Wildey, 20, of Stafford pleaded guilty to child neglect. He was sentenced to three years with all but time served suspended.
Prosecutor Tara Mooney said Wildey had already spent about five months in jail.
According to the evidence, Deputy Dominic Torrice was in the 600 block of Cambridge Street (U.S. 1) Nov. 30 when he saw a vehicle make an improper U–turn and head north.
Torrice stopped the car near Drew Middle School and found three adult males and an 8-month-old child inside it. The adults were intoxicated, Mooney said.
Wildey, a passenger in the car, drew attention to himself when the deputy saw him trying to hide two large beer cans. He was later charged after police learned he was supposed to be taking care of his fiancé’s child while she was at work. The child was not harmed.
The driver was charged with and later convicted of driving while intoxicated. The third man was not charged.
