Duo held on heroin charges
Two Stafford men were arrested on heroin-related charges following a raid on their home Tuesday, police said.
Benjamin Mark Smith, 28, and Ryan Kenneth McQuinn, 26, both of 13 Anita Drive, were arrested as part of an ongoing investigation headed by Stafford Detective Sarah Montgomery and 1st Sgt. Robbie Grella.
Sheriff’s Maj. David Decatur said the search warrant was obtained following an investigation that included information from informants and surveillance of the residence. Heroin and a “prohibited” firearm were recovered, Decatur said.
Smith is charged with distributing heroin and McQuinn was charged with possession. Decatur said Smith was the target of the raid and McQuinn was arrested based on evidence discovered during the search. Decatur declined to elaborate.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is involved in the investigation, Decatur said.
Stafford narcotics detectives have been putting special emphasis on heroin distribution in the county in recent months.
There have been 12 deaths attributed to heroin overdoses in just over a year and detectives say it is by far the biggest drug problem in the county.
