Damage backs up shots-fired reports in Fredericksburg
A bullet and accompanying damage was found in a Fredericksburg residence some 24 hours after numerous residents reported hearing shots fired, police said.
City police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said police got numerous calls late Saturday regarding multiple gunshots in the downtown area.
Some callers heard up to 10 shots, but no one was sure where the shots had come from.
Bledsoe said officers searched the area but found no suspicious people or any evidence of gunshot damage.
On Sunday night, a couple in their 60s called police to report damage in an upstairs bedroom in the 700 block of Prince Edward Street, which is between Charlotte and Hanover streets.
Bledsoe said the couple had heard what they thought were fireworks about the same time people were calling about gunshots, and also heard a crashing sound upstairs. But they didn’t go upstairs at the time and didn’t call police.
The next night, the wife went upstairs and found a hole through two bedroom windows and damage in the room. Police were called and found a bullet on the floor that had apparently ricocheted off some furniture and a wall.
Police are still investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call city police at 540/373-3122.
