Man held in Fredericksburg bank robbery

A man accused of robbing a Fredericksburg bank Wednesday afternoon was taken into custody less than five minutes after the holdup, police said.
City police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said the robbery took place at 3:48 p.m. at PNC Bank at 1001 Gordon Shelton Blvd. in the same shopping area as Wegmans.
A man wearing a mask and displaying a handgun walked up to a teller and demanded money, and the teller complied, police said. He left with an undisclosed amount of cash and was seen running toward Wegmans close to Fall Hill Avenue.
Bledsoe said city officers were already in the area and got descriptions of the man, his clothing and his direction of travel from witnesses.
At 3:51 p.m., Officer Dan Finn spotted the suspect near the pool at the nearby Homewood Suites. Finn held the man at gunpoint until other officers arrived a few minutes later to take the suspect into custody.
The money was found a short time later along the path witnesses had seen the man taking.
Police were still investigating the incident. No further information, including the suspect’s name, was immediately available.
